BIS raided a mall selling stainless steel pipes in the city

       Over the past month, a group of BIS Chennai officers have seized 40 lakh worth of stainless steel welded pipes during raids at various locations in the city.
       The raids were carried out on the premises of 10 stainless steel pipe dealers based on information that the dealers were importing and selling stainless steel pipes bearing counterfeit BIS markings.
        Discover welded stainless steel pipes with the ISI mark and IS 6911, the standard for stainless steel plates, sheets and strips. The press release states that about 5,000 welded stainless steel pipes have fake ISI marks.
        BIS has taken legal action against the offenders under the Indian Bureau of Standards Act 2016. This offense is punishable by imprisonment for up to two years or a fine of at least 2 million rupees. Such misuse of the ISI logo may be reported to BIS through the BIS Care app or by sending an email to cnbo1@bis.gov.in.
